5 years ago i would say "just buy a toyota and be done". Nowadays i dont think thats a good call either. These small turbo charged engines just dont impress me at all with their reliability. Give me an na v6 or v8. This is why i bought a silverado 2500 instead of the 1500. I dont want a 2.7 in my pickup. Ill take the na 6.6.

Been seeing more and more noise about the 3.4 twin turbo v6 found in the Tundra and other vehciles having rod bearing failures. Not something you expect to see from a Toyota product. I'm not worried about the turbo failing, I'm more concerned about weak internals that can't stand up to the added stress. I've owned multiple turbo diesels and never had a problem but they are built a lot stronger to withstand the boost and high torque.

Why would any Engineer with *any* sense *AT ALL* create a timing chain guide out of plastic, for a timing chain over a meter long??? Much, much better to have ONE stout 200K+, very durable chain/gear set to move the gear operations to the top of the block and THEN two short belts or chains to the overhead can heads??? If belts, make them easy to change, 2 hours for both, inside of dry covers, cost only USD$ 1K max for both. I just spent USD$2K to replace the Alternator and battery an our 2006 AWD Lexus IS 250, but the alternator lasted 18 years, so it’s an expected failure after that many miles (92K). My only real gripe is the 4 hours of labor charge to replace it. WHY was it put under the manifold? 🤬🤬🤬 out of 5 curses for that design. Otherwise, only one set of brakes, with regular (Major and minor services) fluids, filters, *good* fuel, and tires, plus 4 “Low tire” sensors. Sign me “Satisfied” after about 20 years of Lexus ownership. Actually have spent more on bodywork than major repairs, due to the wife’s scraping the fenders on the garage door jambs! (It’s “Her” car, so I let her curse herself!). 😉

I think a lot of the cost of repairing the newer cars isn't in the actual parts. It's in the labor and diagnostics. They shove so much up into the dash that is something goes bad, the entire dash has to be pulled out.

I’d buy a low mileage Well maintained Jag XJ at 35,000 miles. Course I sell my cars at about 100,000 miles. All cars after 100,000 will start costing you quite a bit. Buy what you can afford only.

You said that friend bought a 2014 BMW? And today is 2024. It's been 10 years now. I don't know about you all, but I don't expect my car not to have parts that wouldn't have worn out after 10 years. My cousin's 2008 Accord had transmission issue in 2022. Sure it's 14 years apart. But things like this happen. Why so surprised? In fact, why buy a house? You will have to repair pipes, HVAC, windows, wood panels, roof, pavements, etc... after some 10-20 years.

I just bought a 24 tlx aspec and I love the looks and performance. Friends family, and coworker's say, 'wow, that is a fancy and aggressively styled car. Beautiful!' lots of head turns too. So given that feedback, I'd disagree with your assessment of the tlx styling being old school. I looked at the Lexus IS350 but sadly, Lexus is typecast as an old person brand. I just couldn't get over that let alone the extremely dated tech.

Lexus crap. BMW is better than before. Had a 2011 X5M and it was horrible. Have a C43 Estate now and it's great.

After I get rid of my current Mercedes I will stay well clear of the brand. Long list of issues and peculiar noises which like your experience, Mercedes were not able to diagnose or rectify. The most recent issue was that the car just cut whilst in the middle.of operating it. A message appeared "vehicle innapprotive. Read owner's manual" apparently a sensor with regards to voltage........it happened again with the same fault 6 months later. I've had coolant leaks with no dash notification. Cracks in the exhaust system. Numerous suspension issues. The brakes continually screech with no fault to pads or disks. No man, never again a Mercedes. Reliability is zero

I can give my opinion from experience as taxi driver in Bulgaria (easten Europe),i drive kia rio 1.6 naturally aspirated engine with 123 hp with automatic transmission and the car reached 500000 without any problems only have been changed the spark plugs,and regular maintenance,also they are many kia ceed with 1.4i 100hp with more than 500000 as taxies,

How about this car's reliability?

My 2007 gs with 180k miles has had zero problems thankfully. Runs like a new car, even though im a rough driver. Did have to change alternator, radiator, bearings and struts but thats notmal maintenance.

I’ve owned a g37x for 7+ years. Couldn’t ask for a more reliable vehicle.

Ehh The new Acuras look gorgeous imo and yes looks are subjective but my Acura (TLX Type-S) gets many compliments from people even people who own 2x - 3x more expensive cars

FYI…the IS350 AWD comes with 6 speed transmission, only the RWD versions comes with 8 speed transmission. It is too bad, all the RWD V6 models only available in US and not in Canada.
